MEMBERSHIP

ASA associate membership drive was adopted in May 2019 and our constitution to recruit new associate members was approved by Registrar of Societies of Singapore in July 2019. Your organisation is invited for the ASA associate membership. ASA Ordinary members include the national shipowners’ associations of ASEAN member countries, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.

Our standing committees are involved in ship recycling, seafarers’ welfare, safe navigation and marine environmental issues, maritime trade policies, insurances and legal matters to achieve our objectives in providing better shipping services and conditions. As of January 2022, half of the world’s tonnage was owned by Asian companies (UNCTAD Handbook of Statistics 2022)

ASA acts as a channel to convey shipowners’ voices to the international shipping community as well as to enhance and strengthen the ASA’s stature. At the same time, it is also a platform for all ASA members to liaise with one another and to help promote cooperation, amity and friendship amongst its members.

ASA is a non-profit organisation and we are partially funded by Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF). Our Associate membership fee is SGD8000 net per annum with NO GST. Our aim is solely to raise the profile and stature of Asian shipping / and its voice in the international maritime arena. Our Ordinary members are the national shipowners’ associations and we have 13 countries/regions under our Ordinary membership. Each association represents its own members and some of them have around 200-500 members under their membership. Through our platform, we are able to connect you with the rest during our events and AGM.

ASA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in April 2019 for partnership with International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA). We are also in partnership with Asian Classification Society (ACS) and Active Shipbuilding Experts Federation (ASEF) and together we formed the A3 Experts and A3 Executive meetings.
